The origins of the medieval village date back to the 10th century, but oldest remnant of it’s past is the fine Romanesque belfry of the little church, erected between the 14th and the 15th century. The hamlet counts about 40 inhabitants, among them 10 children between 3 and 14 years. |

The little mediaeval village of Simignano lies in the hilly area “Montagnola Senese” southeast of Siena. Its origins go back to the 10th century. Fields, ilex groves and chestnut woods surround it. |
At the village a local pig race (“Cinta Senese”) threatened by extinction is bred in natural state. Moreover sheep and small animals are kept. |
There are no shops at the village (a car delivering bread passes every day). Small grocery shops are found at Pievescola (4 km) or Sovicille (8 km), where you find a bank, a post-office and a pharmacy. The closest supermarket is at Rosia (13 km). |
Also the countryside invites you to stop and look, to walk and to relax, maybe while bathing at the river (15 km) or taking a day-trip to the sea (70-90 km). |
It is near to many big centers of art and history like Siena (18 km), Colle Val d’Elsa (17 km), Florence (60 km), San Gimignano (35 km), Pisa (75 km). |
